Connor Zilisch Wins 2025 NMPA Richard Petty Driver of Year

Connor Zilisch, who dominated last year’s Xfinity Series with 10 victories and an 18-race streak of top-five finishes, has been awarded the 2025 NMPA Richard Petty Driver of the Year. He narrowly surpassed NTT IndyCar champion Alex Palou and NASCAR Cup Series driver Denny Hamlin in a closely contested vote.

Close Race Among Top Competitors

The final tally showed Zilisch edging past Palou by a single vote and Hamlin by two, highlighting the intense competition for the honor. Other notable contenders included Rico Abreau, the Kubota High Limit Racing champion; Brittany Force from NHRA Top Fuel; NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series champion Corey Heim; Formula One titleholder Lando Norris; and NHRA Funny Car champion Austin Prock.

Zilisch’s Emerging Career and Upcoming Moves

At just 19 years old, Zilisch’s achievement marks the second consecutive year a driver from JR Motorsports has earned this distinction. Justin Allgaier, also from JR Motorsports, claimed the award in 2024 after winning the Xfinity Series championship. Looking ahead, Zilisch is set to begin competing in NASCAR’s Cup Series with Trackhouse Racing in 2026.

Honors and Recognition at Darlington Raceway

Zilisch will be formally presented with the trophy on Saturday during the NMPA’s annual awards luncheon. His name will be added to the permanent Richard Petty Driver of the Year plaque housed in the NMPA Hall of Fame at Darlington Raceway, a prestigious location celebrating motorsports excellence.
