GAINESVILLE, Fla. (March 3, 2026) – Top Fuel legend Doug Kalitta will begin the 2026 NHRA season as the reigning world champion for the second time in three years. His pursuit of continued excellence positions him as a major contender at this weekend’s Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals at Gainesville Raceway, marking a significant moment in his accomplished career.
Kalitta launches NHRA’s landmark 75th anniversary season carrying the No. 1 ranking on his Mac Tools dragster, a symbol of his outstanding performance throughout the latter half of 2025. With four wins, seven final-round appearances, and eight No. 1 qualifier runs, Kalitta topped the Countdown to the Championship by claiming two playoff victories to secure his second world title.
High Hopes for a Banner Weekend at Gainesville Raceway
Heading into the Gatornationals, Kalitta embraces the opportunity to defend his title not only in the main event but also in the Right Trailers Top Fuel All-Star Callout specialty race on Saturday. Entering as the top seed, Kalitta eyes a potentially historic weekend with both the traditional Golden Gator trophy and the inaugural NHRA 75th anniversary Diamond Wally award at stake.
“It’s really nice to go to the first race and have the No. 1 on your car, for sure,”
Kalitta shared.
“The first race kind of resets everything and it’s off we go again. I’m really proud of what our Mac Tools team accomplished last year. It’s nice to have that number one back on the car for the year and seeing it there on the car never gets old. It’s taken a while – we had a long time of trying to accomplish this goal, and it looks good on there, I think.”
Two weeks prior, Kalitta and team made a strong impression during testing sessions at Gainesville, fine-tuning their setup and bolstering confidence ahead of the event’s high-caliber competition.
“Testing went very well,”
Kalitta remarked.
“The car performed well. All the things you hope to find at a test session – we were able to work through a lot of issues, and I think we’re hopefully in good shape. The car ran really well, but we always win testing. It’s good to get everybody working again and doing our thing. We’ll be ready to hit the ground running.”

The special 75th anniversary NHRA Gatornationals promises fierce competition across all racing categories.
