Esteban Ocon: Why His F1 Journey Is Just Beginning

As the Australian Grand Prix approaches, Esteban Ocon stands at a significant turning point in his career, reflecting on ten years in Formula 1 while preparing for the 2026 season opener in Melbourne. Throughout his extensive experience of 180 races, the French driver remains determined to push beyond his existing achievements and advance his Esteban Ocon F1 journey.

Ocon’s Achievements and Unfulfilled Ambitions

The 29-year-old has secured one Grand Prix victory and multiple podium finishes, notably his win at the 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix. Despite these accomplishments, Ocon openly admits that he has yet to meet his own expectations.

“I haven’t achieved enough in F1,”

he confessed. He also expressed pride in his successes outside Formula 1, saying,

“Yes, I think it’s fair to say that I’m happy with what I’ve achieved in terms of podiums and wins, I’m proud of those,”

but added with a tone of frustration,

“I’ve won in every category that I’ve driven in the past, apart from DTM maybe, with my half a year, but from karting to single-seater, I’ve won everywhere. Yes, I’ve won one race in F1, but it’s not enough. Out of 180 races, to my standard, it’s disappointing so far.”

Preparing for the 2026 Season: Optimism and Challenges

Ocon’s Haas team has shown promise during the pre-season testing in Bahrain, with encouraging reliability and no significant mechanical problems. Reflecting on these developments, Ocon remarked,

“I mean, I don’t know at the moment, it’s a bit early to say, but for sure the test has been very good for us,”

emphasizing the value of gathering data during this crucial period. However, he remains mindful of specific difficulties ahead, especially at the Australian circuit, which demands expert energy management.

“Of course there will be a lot of new things for many teams, depending on what they are bringing, I think there will be some performance gains,”

he said, adding,

“It’s probably the most difficult track in terms of energy management as well, this one.”
