Esteban Ocon Bio
Esteban José Jean-Pierre Ocon-Khelfane, born on 17 September 1996 in Évreux, Eure, France, is a French racing driver who competes in Formula One for Haas. Ocon is best known for winning the 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix with Alpine and for his determined path through the junior single-seater ranks, where he captured titles in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship and the GP3 Series. He is contracted to remain at Haas through at least the end of the 2026 season and carries car number 31.
Early Life and Background
Ocon was born and raised in Normandy to Sabrina Khelfane and Laurent Ocon, a mechanic who owns a garage in Évreux. His paternal family originates from Málaga, Spain, while his mother has roots in Algeria. To fund his early karting career, his parents sold the family home, which included his father’s garage, and the family lived and travelled to races in a caravan that Ocon also used as a motor home. Ocon has admitted that, at one point, he nearly gave up on racing to take a job at McDonald’s before his results earned him stronger backing.

Path to Formula One
Ocon entered karting in 2006, finishing eighth in the Minime class of the French Championship, and won the national title a year later. He added the Cadet class crown in 2008, finishing ahead of future Formula One drivers Anthoine Hubert and Pierre Gasly. After three seasons in the KF3 category, including a French KF3 title in 2010 and a runner-up finish in the 2011 WSK Euro Series behind Max Verstappen, Ocon was signed at age 14 by Gravity Sports management, a sister company of the Renault Formula One team.

Early Career in Formula One (2016)
Ocon’s first taste of a Formula One car came in October 2014, when he tested the Lotus E20 at Valencia. He later completed a Ferrari F10 test at Fiorano as a reward for his Formula 3 title and ran in a Friday practice session at the 2014 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix for Lotus. In February 2016, he was announced as the reserve driver for the Renault Sport F1 team, taking part in four Friday practice sessions, while also competing in the first ten races of the 2016 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) season for Mercedes-Benz.
