Highlights from Recent Car Enthusiast Events in Spain

Recently, over 150 vehicles gathered for the ‘Cars and Coffee’ event at YANX American Diner in Centro Plaza, Puerto Banus, showcasing a diverse range of automobiles. The display included everything from rare classic cars to modern performance vehicles, captivating a large and enthusiastic crowd. The Porsche Owners Club of Andalucia contributed nearly a dozen striking Porsche 911 variants, while bright red Ferraris from the Ferrari Owners Club caught the eyes of many admirers.

Among the star attractions was a rare Isetta ‘Bubble Car’ alongside its three-wheeled counterpart, both drawing significant attention. American muscle cars from the 1950s and 1960s were parked next to high-end Rolles Royce and Bentley models, creating a striking contrast. The event also featured a unique Tesla Electric Truck alongside classic vehicles like a 1960s VW Camper. A noteworthy inclusion was a restored 1970s Clan Crusader and a classic 1973 V12 Jaguar E-Type in Carmen red. Two Jaguars, a 1992 6.0 Litre V12 XJR-S and its younger 2003 Supercharged V8 XKR sibling, both flaunted British Racing Green, adding to the event’s allure.

The Classic & Sportscar Club’s Tour de la Luz Journey

In late February, the Classic & Sportscar Club embarked on a scenic five-day Tour de la Luz, beginning in Marbella at Venta Los Almendros. Despite numerous road closures causing some rerouting challenges near Ronda, the journey brought participants through picturesque locations including Zahara’s lakes and Algodonales before reaching Arcos de la Frontera for a lakeside lunch. The warm sunshine was a welcomed respite after a difficult winter, allowing participants to dine outdoors.

Following lunch, the group traveled to Jerez for a two-night stay at Hotel Jerez Spa. The Gala dinner honored tradition with a Black Tie and elegant dress code, hosted by Ian Giles, who engaged the international attendees with lively cross toasting and humor.

A rest day allowed participants to explore Jerez, with opportunities to visit a sherry bodega, a vineyard, and an equestrian center, while many relaxed or shopped.

On the third day, travelers enjoyed a countryside drive to the port of Chipiona for a renowned fish lunch at Cantina Marinera, followed by a short trip to Puerto de Santa Maria and an overnight stay at the five-star Palacio de Medinaceli. Evenings were spent savoring fine food, drinks, and socializing in the hotel bar.

Day four included a coastal run to Conil de la Frontera and a coffee break at Trafalgar, the historic naval battle site where Admiral Nelson fell. Lunch took place in Zahara de los Atunes, famed for its Almadraba tuna and vibrant culinary scene with quality tapas bars.

The final day concluded at the Hotel Meson de Sancho near Tarifa, featuring a festive last-night dinner and celebrations where many revellers stayed late into the night, marking a joyful end to the tour.
