Formula 1 Movie Sequel in the Works, Brad Pitt Fans Rejoice

Stefano Domenicali, CEO of Formula One Group, has suggested that a sequel to the successful Formula 1 movie starring Brad Pitt could be in development. During an Apple TV press event held on February 3 in Santa Monica, California, Domenicali addressed questions about a follow-up to the acclaimed film, which has captured widespread attention and praise.

Discussion at Apple TV Press Event Sparks Hopes for More

The inquiry came from Apple’s Senior Vice President of Services, Eddie Cue, who took part in a Q&A alongside Domenicali. Cue asked if another Formula 1 movie would be created, acknowledging the original film’s strong reception and impact.

In response, Domenicali said,

“Stay tuned. We’re going to tell you something more in the future. Never say never. But we need to digest more the success of this movie because it was something unique. And if you want to think of a new one, it has to be really, very, very good.”

He further noted,

Therefore, if this will happen, it will not be for next year. But maybe next year we’re going to be here [at the press day], and hopefully we have something more to announce [then].

This cautious optimism suggests that a sequel is not imminent but is being seriously considered depending on the right creative direction.

Origins of the Original Film and Its Impact on the Sport

Domenicali shared insights into how the original Formula 1 movie came to fruition. He recalled a pivotal meeting in early 2021 with Eddie Cue, director Joseph Kosinski, and producer Jerry Bruckheimer. The meeting demonstrated a careful balance between creating an engaging Hollywood film and maintaining the authenticity of the Formula 1 world.

He noted,

“I was fascinated by it, of course, but also worried about creating the right ecosystem and making sure that the project was real and authentic. Because for us, it was really crucial to make sure that we could present our world in a context of Hollywood and a movie and be real…”

He described the experience as “an incredible experience.”

Formula 1’s Cultural Growth and Future Prospects

Beyond the film, Domenicali emphasized the sport’s evolution and broader cultural relevance. He explained that Formula 1 aims to move beyond its traditional image focused solely on racing to become a larger cultural phenomenon by expanding content and engagement worldwide.

He expressed this vision, stating,

The future of F1 has to be bright because it’s up to us and we need to think big because we moved the sport not only as it was in the past on the track but we’re moving the sport in a different cultural dimension… It’s a matter of expanding our content.

Significance and What to Expect Next

The original Formula 1 movie has set a high bar, earning four Academy Award nominations for Best Picture, Best Film Editing, Best Sound, and Best Visual Effects. Its success has renewed interest in the sport’s cinematic potential, with Brad Pitt’s involvement attracting a wider audience. Domenicali’s remarks suggest that while a sequel is not immediately forthcoming, the Formula 1 franchise hopes to continue leveraging its momentum carefully and thoughtfully.

Formula 1 enthusiasts and Brad Pitt fans alike can anticipate further announcements potentially emerging during next year’s Apple TV event, marking an important moment in the ongoing evolution of the sport’s cultural presence.
