Jack Doohan Leaves Alpine Ahead of 2026 F1 Season

Jack Doohan and the BWT Alpine Formula One Team have mutually agreed to end their partnership ahead of the 2026 FIA Formula One World Championship, enabling Doohan to explore other racing opportunities. The Australian driver, who made his Formula One debut in 2024, was replaced by Franco Colapinto for the upcoming season, with Pierre Gasly remaining Alpine’s other team driver.

The Renault-owned team confirmed the split following a challenging period in which Alpine finished last in the 2025 Constructors’ Championship. Doohan’s tenure with Alpine featured a short full-time stint in 2024 before the team reshuffled its driver lineup to seek improved results.

Doohan’s Entry and Performance During 2024 Season

Doohan made an unexpected Formula One debut at the 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, stepping in to replace Esteban Ocon for the final race of the season. He qualified 20th and finished in 15th place, partnering Pierre Gasly as Alpine adjusted its racing squad for 2025.

Starting the 2025 season as Alpine’s driver, Doohan competed in six races, recording two retirements and achieving a best finish of 13th at the Chinese Grand Prix. Following this, Franco Colapinto was promoted from reserve status to replace Doohan as a race driver, moving Doohan to a reserve role within the team.

Team Context and Future Lineup for the 2026 Season

Franco Colapinto, who took over from Doohan during the 2025 campaign, did not secure any points over 18 starts but has been retained by Alpine for the 2026 season starting with the Australian Grand Prix in March. The team aims to stabilize performance after a difficult year.

Alpine’s decision to part ways with Doohan concludes a four-year relationship that spanned junior categories, an academy role, and a brief full-time Formula One race seat. The team’s poor overall showing, finishing last in the Constructors’ Championship with only 22 points and 48 points behind the next lowest team, was a significant factor in the lineup changes.
