Jorge Lorenzo Declares Ducati GP26 ‘Untouchable’ After Sepang Test

At the recent Sepang testing sessions, MotoGP icon Jorge Lorenzo delivered a striking evaluation of the Ducati GP26, labeling it an unrivaled machine on the grid. With Ducati already securing 17 wins out of 22 races in the 2025 season and Marc Marquez clinching the championship, Lorenzo’s comments underscore the challenge facing rival teams aiming to close the gap on Ducati GP26 dominance.

Technical Advancements Cement Ducati’s Lead

After three days of rigorous testing, Lorenzo, now aligned with the KTM team and acting as Maverick Viñales’ mentor, praised the Ducati’s balance and handling. He pointed out its remarkable smoothness and stability, especially when accelerating out of corners.

“The Ducati is incredibly smooth, incredibly stable, especially on corner exit. They remain fluid even at maximum lean with 20% acceleration, and that fluidity lasts throughout their acceleration,”

Lorenzo observed, contrasting it sharply with other motorcycles’ less consistent performances.

Ducati’s enhancements extend beyond handling. Lorenzo highlighted improvements to the rear suspension and its role in acceleration, noting,

“They’ve improved the rear device both at the start and on corner exit; it appears very low, extremely low, which certainly contributes to acceleration and reduces wheelies.”

He also emphasized the aerodynamic developments at the front of the GP26, describing the large front wings as reminiscent of Formula 1 designs.

“We also noticed very large front wings, almost reminiscent of a Formula 1 car. This aerodynamic downforce plays a crucial role in keeping the bike stable during acceleration.”

This combination delivers faster and cleaner acceleration that lasts longer.

Implications for the 2026 MotoGP Season

While Sepang represents just an early stage of the MotoGP calendar, Lorenzo stressed the significance of Ducati’s progress compared to the previous season.

“Last year, Ducati hardly made any improvements. They continued to work hard for this year, and from what I see on this track, they have clearly advanced.”

Though Lorenzo acknowledged that Aprilia remains competitive and Honda has made notable improvements, his outlook remains firm.

“If the GP25 was dominant despite its inconsistencies, the GP26 could very well be the perfected version of that superiority.”

The 2026 season appears set to be dominated by Ducati’s GP26, making the task of toppling their supremacy an immense challenge. As the MotoGP community watches attentively, questions linger over which teams and riders might push back against Ducati’s imposing pace and innovation.
