Kyle Busch Streaks to Third Straight Truck Win at EchoPark

Kyle Busch claimed a decisive win on Saturday afternoon at EchoPark Speedway, adding to his impressive record in the Fr8 Racing 208 event. Driving the No. 7 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet, Busch triumphed in the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series for the third year running at this track, marking his 68th career Truck Series victory in 181 starts and his first win of the 2026 season.

The race took place under challenging conditions, with heavy morning rain delaying the start and a strict 4:20 p.m. ET hard cutoff imposed by NASCAR to accommodate a later O’Reilly Auto Parts Series event. These factors created a tense race environment as drivers raced against both competitors and the clock.

Race Progress and Key Incidents Shaping the Outcome

Corey Heim got off to a strong start by winning Stage 1, with Ben Rhodes and Kyle Busch close behind. Rhodes, driving the No. 99 ThorSport Ford and the defending series champion, showed considerable speed early on. However, the race dynamic shifted dramatically near the end of Stage 2, when Rhodes ran out of fuel on Turn 2 with just two laps remaining, forcing him to pit and relinquish the lead.

Stewart Friesen capitalized on this, narrowly edging out Ricky Stenhouse Jr. at the finish of Stage 2 amid a hectic sprint. Carson Hocevar, Busch’s teammate in the No. 77 Chevrolet, also featured prominently during this phase, helping to shake up the field.

A critical moment came on Lap 100, when Cole Butcher’s No. 13 truck collided with the outside wall, triggering a chain reaction. Attempting to evade the incident, Dawson Sutton spun and hit the frontstretch wall head-on, leading to a caution that compressed the field with the cutoff time looming.

Final Laps Show Teamwork and Strategy Play a Major Role

As the clock wound down, Busch methodically advanced toward the front with significant help from Hocevar, whose support proved essential to maintaining Busch’s lead. The Spire Motorsports teammates worked cohesively through dense traffic to secure a one-two finish for their organization.

“Huge help from behind,” Kyle Busch said following the victory. “Carson Hocevar was a great teammate today—early on in the race I was like, ‘wait a second, same ol’ Carson,’ but when it got towards the end we started working together and we started being able to maneuver our way through.”

Hocevar joined Busch on the front straightaway after the win, highlighting their teamwork.

“I thought it would be a good picture, good for the marketing team,” Hocevar remarked. “I kept sputtering and the bottom kept surging, and I had no shot to win the race, so if I wasn’t going to have a shot, I was going to make sure the company had a shot—that was a business decision. Especially a year from here when he was hating my guts in the Cup race, I don’t think I would be excited to watch a Kyle Busch Truck win, but we’re teammates here. It worked out for us.”

Strong Performances from Other Drivers Amidst Race Challenges

Gio Ruggiero delivered one of the standout drives by progressing from the back of the pack to finish third in his No. 17 Tricon Garage Toyota, despite starting behind the field due to unapproved adjustments. Rhodes managed to recover from his fuel issue, crossing the finish line in fourth place on his 29th birthday. Corey Heim completed the top five finishers.

The results kept Chandler Smith in the lead of the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series standings, holding a 28-point advantage over Ruggiero after this round.

Race Statistics and Leadership Breakdown

The race was completed with an average speed of 131.027 mph and lasted 1 hour, 28 minutes, and 9 seconds. Kyle Busch narrowly edged out his competitors with a margin of victory of just 0.114 seconds. Three caution periods slowed the race for a total of 18 laps, and there were 14 lead changes involving five different drivers.

Ben Rhodes led the most laps, totaling 70 over three stints at the front. Busch led four times for 37 laps, while Stewart Friesen led 10 laps over three intervals. Corey Heim and Jake Garcia each led on two occasions, combining for eight laps at the front.

Team Strategies and Future Implications for the Season

Kyle Busch’s third straight win at EchoPark Speedway solidifies his dominance in the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series, signaling a strong early-season push by Spire Motorsports. The teamwork shown by Busch and Hocevar under pressure highlights the growing importance of cooperative strategies in highly competitive races constrained by time limits and track conditions.

As the series moves forward, maintaining this momentum could be crucial for Busch’s championship aspirations. Meanwhile, competitors like Chandler Smith and Gio Ruggiero remain positioned to challenge the frontrunners, setting the stage for an intense and closely fought season.
