Kyle Larson Snags Pole for 2026 Cook Out Clash Start

Defending NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Larson opened the 2026 season with a strong performance, capturing the pole position for the Cook Out Clash at Bowman Gray Stadium on February 4. Larson achieved his top qualifying speed at 63.663 mph, earning the privilege to start at the front of the 200-lap main event alongside his Hendrick Motorsports teammate William Byron.

Top Qualifiers Set the Stage for the Clash

Alongside Larson and Byron on the front row are Ty Gibbs, Chase Briscoe, and Christopher Bell, who rounded out the top five positions on the grid. In previous editions of the Clash held on quarter-mile tracks, history shows that winners have always started within the first two rows, underscoring the importance of these qualifying results. Other notable drivers such as Denny Hamlin, Bubba Wallace, Chris Buescher, Ross Chastain, and Tyler Reddick secured spots within the top ten.

Last-Chance Qualifier and Final Entrants Announced

Daniel Suarez claimed the 20th spot in qualifying, earning the last guaranteed berth for the Cook Out Clash main event set for 6 p.m. ET. Meanwhile, Josh Berry, starting 21st, will lead the 75-lap last-chance qualifying race at 4:30 p.m. ET. The top two finishers from this qualifier, alongside the highest finisher in 2025 points who has not yet advanced, will complete the field by filling the final three starting positions for the main race.

Race Broadcast and Additional Coverage

The Cook Out Clash at Bowman Gray Stadium will broadcast live on FOX following the last-chance qualifying race. James Krause, who joined Frontstretch as a contributor in March 2024 and covers various sports in Fort Wayne, Indiana, will provide in-depth reporting on the event.

Looking Ahead to the Season Opener

Kyle Larson’s pole position sets him up well for a potential early-season victory and strong championship defense at Bowman Gray Stadium. Given the importance of starting near the front based on past outcomes, his performance could influence race strategies and impact the momentum for several drivers early in the NASCAR Cup Series season.
