Lando Norris Cites Ryder Cup Spirit in F1 Comeback Fight

Lando Norris has drawn motivation from the US team’s remarkable rally during the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black last weekend, using their late surge as a reminder of the importance of persistence in sport. As Norris aims to ignite his own Lando Norris F1 comeback, he sees parallels in never giving up until the final moments.

The US Ryder Cup squad, captained by Keegan Bradley, overcame a difficult start over the first two days on home soil in New York, matching the highest points earned in the singles session on Sunday. Despite their efforts, Team USA fell narrowly short with a 15-13 scoreline against Team Europe, who retained the trophy.

Norris Faces Intense Championship Rivalry Within McLaren

Within Formula 1, Norris is embroiled in a tightly contested championship battle with his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri. Piastri holds a 25-point lead, though Norris has been closing the gap by outscoring Piastri in the latest two races. This internal contest adds extra pressure for Norris to stage a comeback in the title race during the remaining rounds.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Sky Sports F1’s David Croft ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix, Norris, an avid golfer, revealed he spent his day off engrossed in the Ryder Cup coverage.

“Binge watching the whole of the Ryder Cup every day!”

he said, emphasizing how the event affected his mindset.

Lessons Learned From Team USA’s Rally

Reflecting on the Ryder Cup’s final day, Norris highlighted several key takeaways applicable to his own campaign.

“You can never say never, right?”

he noted, underlining the value of perseverance.

“Last weekend was a really good example of don’t give up until you know it’s over,”

he said.

“I think America proved that after a good battering on Friday and Saturday what they can still do, what they can still achieve and it’s very close to them almost winning.”

Norris compared the Ryder Cup’s last-day fight to his own situation in F1. He sees the remaining seven races, including Sprint events, as ample opportunity to make up ground on Piastri.

“It’s a similar situation in terms of, as they had seven hours left or a day left, for me we’ve still got seven races, we’ve got the Sprints. There’s still so much opportunity and 20 points or whatever it is, it’s not a lot,”

he explained.

Looking back at a previous setback, Norris added,

“I’ve already fought back a little bit after the DNF and the loss of 18 points in the Netherlands which is a bit of maybe a Friday or a Saturday day for the US and now the rest of the year is my Sunday.”

“I need to try and play catch-up and come back through but there’s no point in giving up until the very end so that’s what I’ve got to do,”

he affirmed.

Singapore Grand Prix Set to Play Crucial Role in Championship

The Formula 1 title battle continues under bright lights at the Singapore Grand Prix this weekend, broadcast live on Sky Sports F1. The race schedule features multiple practice sessions, qualifying, and Sprint races over three days, providing key moments for Norris and Piastri to alter the points standings before the final stretch of the season.

Friday’s sessions begin with F1 Academy Practice, followed by Singapore Grand Prix Practice One and two, alongside press activities. Saturday includes the final practice and qualifying, while Sunday hosts the Grand Prix itself, complemented by Sprint races from the academy series.

This weekend’s event offers Norris a vital chance to further close the gap in his Lando Norris F1 comeback effort, as McLaren targets securing the championship.
