Following Liberty Media’s acquisition of MotoGP in 2025, the crossover between Formula 1 and MotoGP has become increasingly noticeable. Liberty Media, the American company responsible for boosting F1’s global viewership and revenue since 2017, aims to replicate this success within MotoGP by adopting strategies that have worked in Formula 1.
Under Liberty’s guidance, proposals such as introducing street circuits and organizing joint race weekends for both MotoGP and F1 have been put forward. The takeover has also attracted attention from prominent Formula 1 personalities. For example, Guenther Steiner, former Haas F1 team principal, transitioned to managing Tech3 in 2026, with plans to eventually take charge of KTM in MotoGP. Additionally, several F1 drivers, including Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris, have publicly expressed their enthusiasm for MotoGP, while Red Bull’s Max Verstappen is among the sport’s most dedicated supporters.
Max Verstappen Describes MotoGP Riders’ Abilities as “Insane”
In a conversation on the Pirelli YouTube channel, Max Verstappen shared his passion for MotoGP alongside football, reflecting on his experiences riding mini bikes during his youth. Despite realizing his talent was stronger on four wheels, Verstappen recalled the thrill and risks of two-wheeled racing.
“Well, MotoGP, because when I was a kid, in my off-season, I also used to race these little mini bikes,”
said Verstappen.
He acknowledged the dangers involved while observing MotoGP races, highlighting the incredible speeds and rider skills.
“I mean, it’s going really, really fast on the straights. And I don’t know, I just find it insane to watch, like the bikes are a monster. The riders are insane, being so low to the ground, the way they’re leaning next to the bike.”
Verstappen’s Continued Support and Potential Investment in MotoGP
When questioned about his ability to emulate MotoGP riders’ leaning techniques on mini bikes, Verstappen admitted that while he enjoys riding, he would never reach the same level as professional MotoGP racers.
“I would, but of course, not to the level of what these guys would do, but I enjoyed it and it was a big passion.
I stuck to four wheels, luckily. I think that was a smart choice, but I try to watch it every time, every single weekend, if it’s practice, qualifying, the race.”
Verstappen’s admiration for MotoGP goes beyond fandom, as he was linked in 2025 with a possible acquisition of a MotoGP team. Following Liberty Media’s purchase, the value of manufacturers and satellite teams like LCR and Trackhouse has surged, attracting investors looking for opportunities within the sport. Although no official deal has been confirmed, Verstappen’s involvement remains a possibility in the future.
