Max Verstappen, who has been the subject of intense speculation regarding a potential switch to Mercedes in 2026, has put those rumors to rest by expressing his satisfaction with Red Bull. As the 28-year-old prepares for the upcoming 2026 Formula 1 season, Verstappen openly shared the reasons behind his contentment with his current team, emphasizing his long-term commitment to the Austrian outfit. This declaration highlights his focus on continuing his career with Red Bull, underscoring the strong relationship he maintains with the team that brought him into Formula 1 in 2016.
Expanding Horizons Beyond Formula 1
Since joining Red Bull, Verstappen has expanded his involvement in motorsport beyond the pinnacle of Formula 1. Notably, he founded his own sim-racing outfit, Verstappen.com Racing, which includes Chris Lulham, Thierry Vermeulen, and Jos Verstappen as team members. While some racing teams might resist drivers branching out into other motorsport ventures, Verstappen revealed that Red Bull has maintained an open-minded approach, supporting his interests outside F1. This flexibility has kept the Dutch driver satisfied and firmly tied to the Milton Keynes-based constructor.
Verstappen explained that he did not have enough time to establish an independent GT3 team and therefore entrusted the development of his GT team to established outfits Emil Frey Racing and 2 Seas Motorsport, allowing him to pursue his motorsport passions without compromising his Formula 1 responsibilities.

“Of course I talked to Red Bull about my ideas and they were very open about it, at the end of the day, as a team, you want to have a satisfied driver and not a frustrated driver. And this is what keeps me satisfied. At the moment, I don’t have the time to build the GT team all by myself, which is why we have chosen to have our formation run by existing teams, to Emil Frey Racing and 2 Seas Motorsport.”
Max Verstappen told Viaplay.
Verstappen Reflects on His Formula 1 Achievements and Future Ambitions
Having secured four dominant World Championship titles, Max Verstappen acknowledges that he has accomplished all he set out to achieve in Formula 1. This sense of fulfillment allows him to embrace other motorsport ventures and enjoy greater freedom in his career. His passion for racing extends beyond Formula 1, and he has begun to invest time and effort into different projects, including virtual racing and team ownership.
Verstappen shares his enthusiasm for these new challenges and anticipates a future where he leads his own racing initiatives after retiring from professional racing. Despite his diverse commitments, he remains dedicated to the 2026 season and adapting to the sport’s new technical regulations.
“I keep myself busy with other passion projects. Your own racing career is not forever, so a few years ago the idea of setting up your own team was born. When you have achieved all that you have wanted to achieve in F1, you also enjoy a bit more freedom to look at other things. I love racing and love driving different cars, something that of course was already taking shape in the virtual racing world.”
Max Verstappen noted.
Why Verstappen’s Satisfaction Matters to Motorsport
Max Verstappen’s contentment with Red Bull reflects a rare balance between a driver’s ambitions and team support. By allowing him the freedom to explore other motorsport avenues while remaining focused on his Formula 1 career, Red Bull has fostered both loyalty and performance. This dynamic not only benefits Verstappen’s current success but also positions him as a multi-faceted figure within the racing world, capable of influencing motorsport beyond just driving.
As Verstappen prepares for the challenges of the 2026 season under new regulations, his harmonious relationship with Red Bull and his expanding role across motorsport mark him as a key figure to watch. His journey demonstrates how a driver’s satisfaction with their team can shape their legacy both on and off the track.
