MotoGP is set to leave Phillip Island for Adelaide in 2027, ending nearly three decades of World Championship races at the iconic Australian circuit. This significant shift has unsettled the motorsport community on the island, bringing uncertainty about its future role in international motorcycle racing.
Superbike’s Future at Phillip Island Under Threat
Following the MotoGP departure, there are growing concerns that the Superbike World Championship may also soon exit Phillip Island. Its current contract runs through the end of 2027, but deteriorating relations between Dorna, the event organizer, and the circuit’s owners have cast doubt on renewal prospects.
Potential Shift to The Bend Motorsport Park
In response, Dorna is exploring alternatives, focusing on The Bend Motorsport Park near Adelaide in South Australia, a relatively new facility opened in 2017. This venue, already hosting the Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK), could soon become the replacement site for the Superbike World Championship if talks progress.
While no final decisions have been made, the organizer is actively evaluating options that could redefine the region’s motorcycle racing landscape in the coming years.
