McLaren driver Oscar Piastri honored his grandfather with a heartfelt dedication following his victory at the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps. The Australian driver, who is currently battling for the drivers‘ championship against teammate Lando Norris, shared this special moment after a strong performance at his favorite circuit.
The 24-year-old Piastri finished both the Sprint and main races ahead of Norris, reclaiming momentum after trailing behind him in recent rounds in Austria and Silverstone. After celebrating with his team in parc fermé, Piastri signed a champagne bottle and dedicated his win to his grandfather, who was present at the paddock for the race weekend.
“To grandad, I guess you need to come to races more often too!”
During the post-race press conference, Piastri explained why the victory was dedicated to his grandfather, noting that it was his first Grand Prix outside Australia. Speaking to Mirror, he said:
“It’s the first race outside of Australia that he’s come to. One of my sisters, in Spain, that was her first race outside of Australia, and that was a good weekend. Now my grandfather the same, so maybe I need to get my family members one by one for the rest of the races. I didn’t know. It seemed like the best person to dedicate it to. It’s a nice thing to do.”
On Instagram, the eight-time Formula 1 race winner posted several photos from his celebration, including one featuring him alongside his grandfather in parc fermé. This milestone has added personal meaning to Piastri’s growing success on the track.
After Spa, Oscar Piastri holds a 16-point lead over Lando Norris in the championship standings. This advantage comes as the season heads toward the Hungarian Grand Prix, which will take place this weekend at the Hungaroring circuit—the site of Piastri’s first career victory last year.

Looking Ahead to the Hungarian Grand Prix
Oscar Piastri expressed eagerness and optimism about competing in Hungary again, reflecting on the positive memories he has from last year’s race. Speaking ahead of the event, he shared thoughts on his preparation and goals for the weekend.
“I’ve been very happy with my pace over the past few races and I feel in a good place heading over to the Hungaroring. Spa was a productive few days and I want to carry on like that.”
“I have good memories from Hungary twelve months ago but that’s in the past and I’m determined to create more of those moments this year. Off the back of last week’s win, I can’t wait to go racing again.”
This time, Piastri hopes to secure a clear and uncontested victory, following his maiden race win last year that was influenced by team orders. He aims to consolidate his championship lead over Norris before the upcoming summer break, maintaining the momentum he has built during the season’s first half.
