Oscar Piastri, who is leading the 2025 Formula 1 World Drivers’ Championship, is determined to deliver a stronger performance at the Singapore Grand Prix after a difficult weekend in Baku left him without any points. The Australian driver admitted that setbacks are part of being human but expressed confidence that his recent slump is only temporary.
Challenges Faced in Baku Weigh on Piastri’s Campaign
Since his win at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix earlier this season, Piastri, driving for McLaren Racing, has maintained a strong grip on the championship lead, with fluctuations in the gap to his closest challenger, Lando Norris. His consistent high-level performance had marked him as a leading title contender.
However, the Azerbaijan Grand Prix proved problematic for Piastri. He made several critical mistakes over the course of 24 hours, beginning with a crash during qualifying that relegated him to start ninth on the grid. Then, during the race, he jumped the start, which dropped him to the back of the pack, before ultimately crashing out just a few laps later, with his car lodged in the barriers.
Piastri Accepts Human Error but Looks Forward to Recovery
Despite the setbacks in Baku, Piastri recognizes that errors are inevitable in racing and remains focused on regaining momentum at Marina Bay. His ability to recover from this difficult weekend is seen as crucial for sustaining his championship bid as the season progresses.
