The Tech3 KTM MotoGP team has been acquired by a group of investors that includes Alpine F1 driver Pierre Gasly, marking a significant reshuffle in the MotoGP world. The takeover, involving prominent backers such as Guenther Steiner, Ikon Capital, Bolt Ventures, and Main Street Advisors, officially concluded ahead of the 2026 MotoGP season, which begins in Thailand from February 27 to March 1. This move is expected to shape the future direction of the famous racing outfit and the MotoGP championship at large.

New Leadership Aims to Foster Growth While Honoring Team’s Legacy

Guenther Steiner, who now serves as CEO of the Red Bull KTM Tech3 team, shared his excitement about entering the MotoGP arena with like-minded partners committed to long-term success.

“It’s a very exciting time to be entering MotoGP. It was important for Ikon Capital and me to bring together a group of like-minded investors who share a long-term vision for the Tech3 team.”

Pierre Gasly’s Involvement Brings a Unique Motorsport Perspective

Pierre Gasly’s participation in the takeover adds a rare crossover element from Formula 1 to MotoGP. Outperforming Lewis Hamilton, who was linked to a different MotoGP team buyout, Gasly’s role as both an investor and a top-tier driver brings fresh momentum to the racing series. His entry exemplifies a new trend of motorsport professionals taking active stakes in team ownership, potentially influencing the sport’s competitive dynamics and investment landscape.

Tech3 and KTM Partnership Faces Crucial 2026 Season and Beyond

The newly acquired Tech3 team approaches the 2026 season with its contract with KTM ending by year’s end. Former owner Herve Poncharal has expressed a desire to maintain the alliance, especially given the upcoming introduction of new 850cc engine regulations in 2027. However, the new ownership group may consider rebranding options, which could intensify competition and alter team identities within MotoGP.

Upcoming Season Promises Excitement as New Bikes and Ownership Align

KTM has already initiated testing of its next-generation 850cc motorcycle at Jerez, with additional trials anticipated at the Sepang Shakedown, signaling strong preparation for the new regulations. With Pierre Gasly and his partners now at the helm, Tech3’s future appears energized, combining racing heritage with fresh strategic vision. As MotoGP accelerates into the 2026 season, fans can expect intensified competition and expanding global engagement.
