Pierre Gasly has become the first current Formula 1 driver to purchase a stake in a MotoGP team by investing in KTM Tech3 ahead of the upcoming season. This move highlights Gasly’s commitment to the sport and his belief in the growth potential of MotoGP.
Liberty Media’s Strategy Boosts Motorcycle Racing
Liberty Media, which took ownership of MotoGP in 2025, is applying a similar promotional strategy that successfully elevated Formula 1 after its purchase in 2017. On Friday, this approach gained momentum with Alpine driver Gasly joining as a part-owner of the KTM Tech3 MotoGP team.
Strong Leadership and Experienced Investors Back the Team
KTM Tech3 already has connections to Formula 1 through its Team Principal, Guenther Steiner, the former Haas F1 Team Principal and an Italian consortium member who participated in acquiring the team. Alongside Gasly, US investors David Blitzer and Main Street Advisors have also joined this investment.
Gasly Expresses Confidence and Long-Term Vision
Gasly conveyed his strong belief in both the Tech3 brand and MotoGP’s potential for long-term success. His involvement signals dedication not only to the team but to expanding MotoGP’s profile worldwide.
“I have a strong conviction in the strength of the Tech3 brand and the long-term growth of the MotoGP sport… I look forward to contributing to further elevating the team’s profile,”
Gasly said via a statement.
Upcoming Season and Future Implications
The new MotoGP season is set to begin on March 1 in Thailand, marking an exciting period for KTM Tech3 and the sport as a whole. Gasly’s investment could inspire more cross-sport collaboration, bringing fresh energy and resources into motorcycle racing.
