Ryan Blaney, driving the No. 12 Ford for Team Penske, extended his strong performance at Phoenix Raceway by winning the NASCAR Cup race held recently in Arizona. This victory marked his second consecutive Phoenix win and ended Tyler Reddick’s three-race winning streak in the series. Blaney’s impressive showing further establishes his skill and consistency on this desert oval track.
Close Finish with Joe Gibbs Racing’s Christopher Securing Second Place
Christopher, competing in the No. 20 Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing, closely challenged Blaney throughout the final laps, ultimately finishing just 0.399 seconds behind. Kyle Larson, in the No. 5 Chevy for Hendrick Motorsports, completed the top three, crossing the line 2.175 seconds after Blaney. The remaining top five included Ty Gibbs and Denny Hamlin, both also representing Joe Gibbs Racing.
Final Stage Battles and Late-Race Drama
Bell, driving the No. 20 Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing, emerged as the driver to beat entering the final stage. He managed to fend off repeated challenges from Joey Logano and Ryan Blaney during multiple restarts. Bell controlled the race pace amid several cautions, building a lead exceeding two seconds with about 30 laps to go.
However, a series of late-race cautions reshaped the competition. On Lap 254, contact between AJ Allmendinger and Joey Logano sparked a multi-car accident involving drivers such as Austin Dillon, Daniel Suárez, Chase Elliott, Josh Berry, and Shane van Gisbergen, compacting the field for a restart. Bell maintained the lead once the race resumed, but another caution on Lap 287 followed when Dillon’s right-rear tire failed in Turn 2.

The ensuing yellow flags set up an intense sprint finish. Ty Gibbs seized the lead on the restart with 18 laps remaining but was quickly set back by a crash on the backstretch involving John Hunter Nemechek, Ty Dillon, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., and Zane Smith. After another caution and restart with 11 laps left, Ty Gibbs once again took control, only to be overtaken by Blaney nine laps from the finish. Blaney executed a decisive pass beneath Gibbs entering Turn 1 and then extended his lead down the backstretch.
Blaney steadily distanced himself in the closing laps. Meanwhile, Bell regained second place and narrowed the gap, but there was insufficient time for the No. 20 Toyota to reclaim the lead. Bell officially finished second, with Larson securing third place.
Logano’s Strong Showing Cut Short Amid Late-Race Collisions
Joey Logano, who started on pole and led 73 laps after winning the Busch Light Pole Award, had his promising race end prematurely with 58 laps to go. A spin caused by contact with AJ Allmendinger before Turn 1 triggered a crash that involved several competitors, including Josh Berry, Daniel Suárez, and Chase Elliott.
The incident forced several drivers, including Suárez, Logano, and Berry, into the garage, ending their attempts to finish the race. Elliott, however, was able to continue competing despite the crash.
Significance of Blaney’s Phoenix Victory and Future Outlook
Ryan Blaney’s back-to-back wins at Phoenix highlight his growing dominance on this track and add significant momentum to his NASCAR Cup season. His ability to capitalize on late-race restarts and navigate through caution-filled stretches demonstrates both skill and strategic racing acumen. With fierce competition from Joe Gibbs Racing drivers like Bell and Ty Gibbs, as well as strong performances from Hendrick Motorsports and others, the Cup series remains highly competitive as the season unfolds.
This victory also represents a personal milestone, as Blaney celebrated his first win since becoming a father, an achievement noted by broadcasts during the event. Looking ahead, all eyes will be on Blaney and his Team Penske crew to see if they can maintain this winning form across a demanding schedule of upcoming races.
