At the Phoenix Raceway in Avondale, Arizona, Ryan Blaney celebrated a remarkable Penske sweep across multiple motorsport series last weekend, underscoring the spirit of unity within Roger Penske’s organization. Blaney credited the teamwork and shared support among drivers from NASCAR, IndyCar, and IMSA as a driving force behind their success, emphasizing how Penske’s collective mindset plays a crucial role in their achievements.
During an interview on Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour, Blaney expressed his admiration for the camaraderie within the team:
“We couldn’t have drawn up a better weekend in Phoenix,”
Ryan Blaney said.
You know, it was really great having the Indy Cars there. I’m a big fan of IndyCar racing. You know, obviously, with the team that we have here, you know, I cheer on Scotty and Joseph and David, you know, I pull for those guys. I want those guys to do well. And it goes both ways, right?”
A Turnout of Victories Across Multiple Series
The weekend at Phoenix Raceway was a testament to Penske’s dominance in motorsport. David Malukas began the festivities by securing pole position in the IndyCar race, a highly anticipated event returning to the venue for the first time since 2018. Josef Newgarden then claimed victory in the Good Ranchers 250 IndyCar race. Later, NASCAR’s Joey Logano won the pole position at the 1.022-mile dogleg oval track, and his teammate Ryan Blaney sealed the weekend by winning the Straight Talk 500 NASCAR Cup Series race.

This string of successes at Phoenix was a result of a strong sense of teamwork fostered within the Penske organization. The drivers often cross paths at the team’s expansive facilities in Mooresville, North Carolina, including workout areas and the pit stop section. To further build this unity, Roger Penske initiated “The Penske Games,” a series of light-hearted competitions such as dodgeball, table tennis, and a marshmallow-stuffing contest, which helped tighten the bond among drivers across different series.
Blaney elaborated on the mutual support within the team surrounding the race weekend:
“For all those guys to stick around for Sunday and cheer us on was great. I think it just speaks on the team that we have here. You know, no matter what series you’re in, you’re always pulling for each other and supporting each other. We are one big team, Penske,”
he said.
Pressure to Overcome Past Setbacks
The triumph in Phoenix was especially significant considering the challenges Penske’s teams faced in 2025. The IndyCar squad managed only two victories amid major organizational changes, including the departure of Will Power. Although the NASCAR team recorded six wins, none of the drivers progressed to the championship round, marking a year of mixed results that fueled their determination to excel this season.
Josef Newgarden’s win in the Good Ranchers 250 added motivational pressure for the NASCAR drivers to follow suit, with Blaney reflecting on the weekend’s intensity:
“Swept both poles, got both wins. Joseph definitely put the pressure on us, winning on Saturday. Um, that’s for sure. But luckily, we were able to do it,”
Blaney acknowledged.
Newgarden himself commented on his role in motivating the team:
“I don’t know that (Penske’s NASCAR drivers) need a lot of advice from me, but I’ll motivate them,”
Newgarden stated in an interview.
“At a function last night with Team Penske and our partners. I said it’s going to be a real shame if we don’t double up this weekend. I know we did our job. You guys better deliver.”
The Implications of Penske’s Collaborative Success
Ryan Blaney’s win at Phoenix not only highlighted his individual skill but also showcased the growing strength of Penske’s unified team culture. This cohesion is critical in motorsport, where collaboration among drivers, crew members, and management can influence results across various racing disciplines. The Penske sweep at Phoenix may well serve as a blueprint for future success, combining talent from NASCAR, IndyCar, and IMSA under shared ideals and mutual encouragement.
Looking ahead, the momentum built by these recent victories could propel Penske’s teams toward stronger performances in their respective championships. The synergy evident among the drivers and support staff appears to be a vital factor in overcoming past disappointments and sustaining competitive excellence throughout the upcoming races and seasons.
