Ryan Blaney Shocked by Keelan Harvick Joining Toyota Program

On Monday, Toyota Racing Development revealed a long-term commitment to 13-year-old Keelan Harvick, integrating him into their development program. This announcement marks a significant realignment for the Harvick family, notable for their deep history with Chevrolet, and immediately surprised many within the racing community, including Ryan Blaney, who openly expressed his disbelief at the decision.

Ryan Blaney’s Surprising Reaction to Harvick’s New Path

Blaney, speaking on Door Bumper Clear, admitted,

“I did not have that one on my bingo card,”

revealing how unexpected the news was to him. He had anticipated Keelan joining Hendrick Motorsports, saying,

“I thought it was going to be Hendrick Motorsports. I cannot believe that. Wow, that’s huge.”

This sentiment highlights how closely the Harvick name has been associated with Chevrolet until now.

Reflecting on the arrival of a new generation, Blaney shared a moment that emphasized how quickly Keelan is becoming a rising figure:

“I’ve got a great Keelan story. It made me feel old,”

he said.

“We were at a Panthers game. We’re in our little area. Kevin’s there. These fans are hollering over the thing, ‘Keelan, can you sign this?’ Kevin and I are standing there like, ‘F— us, right?’”

Blaney added,

“I got a picture of Keelan handing this hat back to a guy. I was like, ‘Yeah, it’s coming,’ the new wave, man. It’s pretty cool.”

Keelan Harvick’s Racing Journey and 2026 Plans

Despite the family’s past Chevrolet allegiance, Keelan Harvick will continue his racing development within the Toyota environment. In 2026, he is set to compete with Rackley W.A.R. and Kevin Harvick, Inc., driving the No. 62 Toyota Camry in numerous Late Model events across the country. ExxonMobil will sponsor select races, supporting his growth as a competitor.

Though just 13, Keelan boasts impressive accomplishments that justify Toyota’s faith in him. In December, he became the youngest winner ever at the renowned Snowflake 125 held at Five Flags Speedway. Soon after, he secured his first Late Model Stock Car victory at Florence Motor Speedway’s Icebreaker event, once again becoming the youngest winner in that competition’s history.

Build-Up to a Promising Future in Motorsports

Keelan’s rapid progression through racing ranks is notable; he transitioned from Legends cars to Late Models seamlessly. In 2025, he claimed four wins in the zMAX CARS Tour Pro Late Model series as well as two victories in the CARS Tour West Pro Late Model events. This milestone made him the first driver to win in both series during the same season.

Joining Toyota’s Driver Development program places Keelan among future Cup Series prospects such as Christopher Bell, Corey Heim, and John Hunter Nemechek. Toyota’s dedication to nurturing young talent like Keelan signals its commitment to securing competitive drivers for the years ahead while underscoring the arrival of the next generation ready to take center stage.
