Scott Dixon, the acclaimed New Zealand racing driver, will be inducted into the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2026. This elite honour celebrates his extraordinary achievements in the NTT IndyCar Series and his longstanding connection with the iconic venue.
The formal induction ceremony is scheduled for May 21 in downtown Indianapolis, just days before the 110th running of the Indianapolis 500. Dixon will be honoured alongside Giampaolo Dallara, the famed Italian race car constructor.
A Career Marked by Longevity and Success at Indianapolis
Since his IndyCar debut in 2001, Dixon has demonstrated remarkable consistency and excellence. His most notable moment at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway came in 2008 when he secured victory from pole position in the Indianapolis 500. Over 23 starts at the event, Dixon has earned five pole positions—just one fewer than the record held by Rick Mears—and has finished on the podium six times.
In addition to his oval track achievements, Dixon has also triumphed on the Speedway’s road course, winning twice, including a recent victory in 2023. His career achievements extend beyond Indianapolis as well, with six IndyCar championships—second only in series history—and 59 race wins, ranking him second all-time for victories.
Years with Chip Ganassi Racing and Ongoing Competitiveness
At age 45, Dixon remains an active and formidable competitor in IndyCar, driving for Chip Ganassi Racing since 2002. The 2026 season will mark his 25th with the team, making him the longest-serving driver in the organisation’s history. He is also the first active full-time IndyCar driver to be inducted into the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame.
It is a huge honour to be inducted into the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame. It’s such a historic venue in motorsports and means so much to me, having raced here for so many years now. Honestly, it feels a little surreal as I’m still focused on winning here in May. It’s the competition that drives me, even in year 25 with Chip Ganassi Racing. The Indianapolis 500 is the biggest sporting event in the world, and another win here would be incredible, so that’s the goal for 2026,

In addition to this significant hall of fame induction, Dixon was recently honoured with a Knighthood as a Knight Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for his services to motorsport. His exemplary career and dedication to the sport have earned him global respect.

Dixon and Dallara were chosen by a nationwide voting panel composed of more than 150 journalists, former drivers, industry professionals, and historians. Both candidates were first-time nominees and stood out for their remarkable contributions to motorsport.
