Toprak Razgatlioglu Struggles in MotoGP Ahead of Thailand Race

Toprak Razgatlioglu, the former three-time World Superbike Champion, is encountering considerable difficulties adapting to MotoGP as he prepares for the upcoming race in Thailand. Despite his proven talent in Superbike competitions, the Turkish rider has voiced his frustration and demotivation just before the 2026 season begins. During recent tests in Buriram, Razgatlioglu struggled to match Jack Miller’s pace, only managing to maintain proximity for two corners, highlighting serious concerns about his current form.

Insights from Razgatlioglu on His Performance and Learning Curve

Ahead of the first Grand Prix, Razgatlioglu openly discussed his tough transition to MotoGP.

“My first race will be very difficult, partly because of the heat on this circuit. I didn’t make any major progress during the trials, but at least I understood some things. I’m also still studying Jack Miller’s data; He’s a good person, and I sometimes work with him. When I follow him, I see how he handles certain corners. I hope to improve on Friday. My pace isn’t optimal. I’ll give it my all. But it will probably take me a few races before I’ve mastered everything,”

he explained to Speedweek.

He emphasized the importance of focusing on bike feel rather than timing, stating,

“I’m trying not to look at the times – maybe we should just turn the screens off. I expected it to be difficult. It’s complicated with Yamaha at the moment, but I believe this brand can make significant progress. They’ve already achieved many successes. Everyone is working hard – Yamaha might be stronger by mid-year, by the end of the year, or even next year. But I still have a lot to learn.”

Maintaining Passion and Building Connections Within MotoGP

Despite the challenges, Razgatlioglu remains passionate about MotoGP, describing it as a sport he deeply loves and has aspired to join for years. He shared,

“I love MotoGP, it’s a huge sport. I just need to take the time to get to know everyone. The interviews are incredible: in Superbike, it was always the same group of journalists. There are so many more people here, I’m constantly being filmed by a different camera. Deniz Öncü will have to help me; he knows the paddock like the back of his hand,”

demonstrating his willingness to learn from others in the paddock.

Uncertain Prospects for Razgatlioglu at the Thailand Grand Prix

With the Thailand race about to commence, Toprak Razgatlioglu’s position remains uncertain as he continues to adjust to the demands of MotoGP racing. His ability to bridge the gap between Superbike success and MotoGP competitiveness will be closely watched, both by fans and experts. The coming races will be crucial for him to gain confidence, adapt to the Yamaha machine, and demonstrate the skill that earned him his previous championships.

Where will Toprak finish this weekend in Thailand? The racing community eagerly awaits to see how his efforts translate on track.
