Will Power Targets Historic 50th Win with Andretti Global

Two-time NTT INDYCAR SERIES champion Will Power has joined Andretti Global as he aims to extend his celebrated career with a clear objective: to reach 50 career wins, a milestone achieved by only three drivers in the history of the sport. Power’s move, announced earlier this year, reflects his determination to not just compete but to claim multiple victories under his new contract.

He revealed that securing five wins during his contract period would bring him up to that historic mark, putting him alongside legends like A.J. Foyt, Scott Dixon, and Mario Andretti.

Power’s Win Target and Career Comparisons

Hitting 50 victories would place Power in elite company. Foyt holds the record with 67 wins, Dixon stands second with 59, and Andretti follows closely with 52. Power, who has collected 45 wins so far, believes this goal is within reach.

To get to 50 would be very nice. That’s possible, too.

Power stated confidently that achieving three or four wins this season, combined with a strong performance in 2026, would allow him to meet his target.

Get three wins this year, or four, You have a really good year (in 2026), you’re right there.

Contract Details and Past Performance

The exact duration of Power’s contract with Andretti Global remains undisclosed, but it is expected to be a multi-year deal typical for veteran drivers, often spanning two years with an option for a third. Since debuting full-time in 2006, Power has averaged roughly 2.25 wins per season.

Last year, while Power secured a single victory at Portland with Team Penske, Andretti Global claimed three wins, all with newcomer Kyle Kirkwood. With Power’s consistent ability to win—achieving victories in 18 of his 20 seasons—his new team anticipates he will return to winning form.

Early Season Outlook and Additional Records

Power is also expected to be a frontrunner at the season-opening Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, held on Sunday, March 1. A two-time winner of this race and a record nine-time pole sitter at the event, Power enters the weekend with strong credentials to contend for top honors.

Beyond victories, Power is chasing a combined total of wins and poles that would further solidify his legacy. He presently holds 116 combined wins and poles, driven by a series-best 71 poles—more than any other driver. This puts him close to Foyt’s combined 120 and Andretti’s 119 tallies.

Significance of Power’s Pursuit for the Sport

Will Power’s pursuit of his 50th victory marks a significant chapter in INDYCAR history, potentially elevating him into the highest echelon of the sport’s legends. His long-standing consistency and pole position record underscore his enduring competitiveness. As the new season unfolds, all eyes will be on Power to see if he can transform his ambitions into tangible wins, further enriching both his career and Andretti Global’s standing within the series.
