Yuki Tsunoda is set to undergo private testing with an older Red Bull F1 car in anticipation of the Miami Grand Prix. This preparation aims to enhance his adaptation to the team after replacing Liam Lawson in the 2025 season’s third race. The Japanese driver, who has shown promise by reaching Q3 twice and scoring points in Bahrain, is eager for this opportunity despite only having secured two points over three races, including a mishap at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix with Alpine’s Pierre Gasly.
Following a simulator session on Tuesday, Tsunoda will have a day of testing with the 2023 RB19 car at Silverstone on Wednesday. This testing falls under the Testing of Previous Cars (TPC) regulation, allowing teams to conduct tests throughout the year. The session was planned with Tsunoda’s promotion and is not a reactionary measure to his recent performances.
The additional seat time is expected to aid Tsunoda’s mastery of the RB21 car. Red Bull believes these learnings will accelerate his understanding and contribute to future successes. Experiencing the RB19, a car that secured all but one victory in the 2023 season and contributed to Max Verstappen‘s third world title, promises to be an invaluable experience for Tsunoda.
Speaking ahead of the Jeddah weekend, Tsunoda expressed confidence in his potential, stating, “It’s my first time driving a completely different car. I only drove with VCARB for the last four years, so it’s the first time I drove a completely different team’s car. I’m trying to use that, and I know that if I unlock that area, I would be able to probably beat him. I know myself that I can’t beat him straight away, so I’m just trying to build a good baseline and wait for the moment that I can be in the shape, yeah.”
This test signifies more than just preparation; it represents Tsunoda’s resolve and Red Bull’s commitment to nurturing his growth. As the Miami Grand Prix approaches, Yuki Tsunoda’s continued adaptation will be essential. The outcome of this testing could significantly impact his upcoming performance, making it a moment to watch for F1 enthusiasts. By gaining further insights and improving his skills, Tsunoda aims to leverage this experience for better results in future races, further empowering his role within Red Bull. The coming weeks are critical, providing a stage for Tsunoda to demonstrate his full potential alongside the renowned Red Bull team.
