Bubba Wallace found himself unable to face team owner Michael Jordan after his disappointing finish in the recent NASCAR Cup Series event on Sunday. During the 2026 season’s Autotrader 400, Wallace’s performance fell short despite a strong start, leading to visible frustration and regret.
Tyler Reddick secured a victory for 23XI Racing, driving the No. 45 car to first place, followed by Chase Briscoe and Ross Chastain in second and third place, respectively. Wallace, who had also faced challenges at the Daytona 500 the prior weekend, ended up finishing eighth after a costly decision in the race’s crucial moments.
Blocking Move During Race Leads to Regret
Late in the race, Wallace was positioned well for a top finish but chose to block fellow driver Carson Hocevar rather than maintaining his place behind his teammate Tyler Reddick, who eventually went on to win. This strategic move backfired, and Wallace immediately realized the mistake, understanding that supporting Reddick might have given him a chance at victory.
The missed opportunity left Wallace deeply disappointed with his performance, affecting his interactions after the race.
Wallace Unable to Face Michael Jordan After Race
Following the race, Michael Jordan approached Wallace on pit road to offer encouragement, but Wallace was so upset with himself that he couldn’t bring himself to make eye contact. This moment revealed how much the outcome weighed on Wallace’s mind.
“After leading on a restart in overtime, Bubba Wallace got caught up with Carson Hocevar going in to turn one & finished 8th,”
Todd Summers shared.
“On pit road afterward team owner Michael Jordan came up behind Bubba to encourage him & Bubba was so disappointed he never even looked at MJ.”
Todd Summers added.
Despite only two races into the season, Wallace’s rough start has left him feeling uneasy and tense about the challenges ahead.
