NASCAR Cup Series driver Chase Briscoe experienced a frightening crash during the Straight Talk Wireless 500 at Phoenix on Sunday after a tire failure ended his race prematurely on Lap 132. The incident left Briscoe unable to continue and resulted in his second Did Not Finish (DNF) of the 2026 season, sparking an outpouring of concern from fans following the tense moment.
Details of Briscoe’s Tire Failure and Crash at Phoenix
Briscoe’s troubles began as he approached Turn 3 in Stage 2 when a sudden tire blowout caused his No. 19 Toyota Camry to lose control and collide violently with the outside wall. The damage was severe enough that his Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) team could not repair the car to rejoin the race, forcing Briscoe to settle for a 37th-place finish. This marked another setback in what has already been a challenging start to the season for the driver.
Shortly after the crash, Rubbin is Racing shared in-car footage of Briscoe’s car during impact, captioning it, “This hurts to watch.” Briscoe himself reacted to the video online, writing, “It hurt inside too.”
Fans flooded social media with supportive messages, relieved that Briscoe appeared okay despite the impact. One fan commented, “Glad you are okay!” while others echoed similar sentiments:

“Damn hard hit, glad you’re okay,”
“The comeback story’s gonna be amazing,”
“Sorry Chase. Hopefully Vegas will be the turnaround you deserve.”
“Take care brother,”
“Glad you’re ok, sure was a lick,”
Briscoe’s Struggles Through the 2026 NASCAR Season
Briscoe’s Phoenix crash continued a shaky start to his 2026 season. He was tangled in a multi-car wreck at the Daytona 500 opening race and finished 36th. The following week, he achieved a strong second place at EchoPark Speedway but then suffered through another poor outing at COTA, finishing 37th and marking his first DNF before Phoenix.
After four races, Briscoe has accumulated just one championship point, highlighting how difficult the season has been so far for the Toyota driver. Despite these setbacks, he remains optimistic about turning things around.
“Another race winning speed car with a 37th place finish,” Chase Briscoe wrote on X. “Can’t catch a break this season. Get a little luck to go along with all this speed and it’s gonna be a lot of fun. Got a big hole to dig out of but we can do it.”
Team Performance and Upcoming Race at Las Vegas
While Briscoe had to bow out early at Phoenix, his Joe Gibbs Racing teammates delivered a strong overall result, all finishing inside the top five. Christopher Bell notably secured second place, contributing to a solid day for JGR. Meanwhile, Team Penske’s Ryan Blaney took the win in Phoenix, marking his first victory of the 2027 season. Blaney’s success followed closely on the heels of teammate Josef Newgarden’s IndyCar win at the same track the previous day.
Blaney’s victory also ended Tyler Reddick’s impressive three-race winning streak that began with the Daytona 500 and continued through Atlanta and COTA.
Looking ahead, Briscoe will aim to rebound at the Pennzoil 400 presented by Jiffy Lube at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on March 15. Broadcast coverage will be available live on FS1 at 4 pm ET, with radio updates provided by PRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, giving fans the chance to follow his efforts closely.
