As the new Formula 1 season nears, Alpine driver Pierre Gasly has issued a strong appeal for the team to improve in several key areas ahead of the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne. While confident about the upcoming challenges, Gasly stresses the importance of making significant progress to compete effectively on race day.
This season marks a major change for Team Enstone, as Alpine has transitioned to using a Mercedes power unit after ending its previous partnership as a works team. Gasly’s pre-season outing showed promise; he completed the sixth-highest number of laps during testing in Barcelona and Bahrain, and secured the eighth-best lap time during the final day in Sakhir.
Maximizing Valuable Track Time During Intense Pre-Season Testing
Gasly has described this pre-season as particularly busy by Formula 1 standards, emphasizing how vital the extra track time has been for Alpine’s development. Unlike typical years where preparation consists of just a day and a half, this year’s schedule included four and a half days of testing, allowing the team to log over 1,000 laps as they acclimate to their new car, the A526.
“This has been an incredibly busy month for us, which is quite atypical for February in F1,”
Gasly said after completing testing.
“We have already had 10 days on track with the A526 across venues like Silverstone, Barcelona, and Bahrain, and I’m definitely ready and excited to race again.”
Gasly Recognizes the Challenges While Acknowledging Team’s Efforts
Despite the positive signs from mileage and testing results, Gasly acknowledges that the path forward is not without obstacles. Alpine aims to rebound after finishing near the bottom of the constructors’ standings last season, and much work remains to be done.

“I’m satisfied with what we’ve accomplished over the past month, and it’s been a tremendous effort from everyone on the team,”
Gasly confirmed.
“However, there’s still a lot to analyze, and several key areas need our attention for us to find those much-needed improvements.”
Preparing Intensively for the Season Opener with Simulator Sessions
Gasly plans to spend additional time at the Enstone headquarters, dedicating himself to simulator training and close collaboration with engineers in the week leading up to the Australian Grand Prix. This hands-on approach underscores the driver’s commitment to ensuring Alpine reaches its full potential early in the campaign.
“This is an exhilarating time for us, and I eagerly anticipate putting in the hours before we hit the track in Australia,”
he remarked.
High Stakes as Alpine Looks to Turn Its F1 Fortunes Around
With pressure mounting and expectations growing, Alpine faces a critical opportunity to improve its competitiveness in the 2026 Formula 1 season. Gasly’s vocal demand for enhancements highlights the urgency within the team to move up the grid and challenge rival constructors effectively.
As the Australian Grand Prix approaches, all eyes will be on Alpine and Pierre Gasly to see if their efforts translate into on-track success, setting the tone for what promises to be an engrossing F1 season.
