Öhlins, the renowned Swedish suspension manufacturer now part of the Brembo Group since 2025, will supply advanced racing dampers for the Cadillac Formula 1 Team during its first Formula 1 season in 2026. This collaboration represents a significant milestone as the American team prepares for its anticipated entry into the sport.
Based in Upplands Väsby, Sweden, Öhlins will equip both the front and rear of Cadillac’s Formula 1 car with their state-of-the-art damper technology. This achievement follows several years of intensive development and testing involving the engineering teams from both companies.
Collaborative Development Drives Performance Excellence
The journey to this partnership began in 2024 with the creation of prototype dampers for the front and rear of the car. Since then, Öhlins and Cadillac’s engineers have engaged in rigorous testing and iterative refinement to perfect the damper systems. This focused effort ensures the final design is optimized for the unique demands of Formula 1 racing.
Öhlins has applied its extensive experience in motorsport damping technology to design dampers that integrate flawlessly with the vehicle’s dynamics and aerodynamic setup. The resulting chassis is engineered to be stable yet responsive, maintaining grip and control at high speeds critical to F1 performance.
Leadership Perspectives on the Partnership
Nick Chester, Chief Technical Director of the Cadillac Formula 1 Team, emphasized the strong connection between the two brands:
“We have collaborated with Öhlins from the beginning of our concept work on the first Cadillac Formula 1 Team car. The performance and quality of the Öhlins dampers is excellent, and we are looking forward to racing and developing together.”
Claes Hesling, Auto Racing Director at Öhlins Group, expressed pride in the collaboration:
“It is an honor to be entrusted with the dampers for Cadillac Formula 1 Team’s first car. This collaboration has been an important opportunity for our two organizations – both with strong motorsport legacies – to join forces and further innovation in racing and automotive performance. This moment has been years in the making, and we look forward to seeing Cadillac Formula 1 Team take their place on the grid next month.”
Final Testing Ahead of the Season Opener in Melbourne
As the team moves toward the 2026 season launch in Melbourne, additional testing will focus on fine-tuning the dampers to maximize safety, reliability, and on-track effectiveness. This final phase aims to ensure that Cadillac’s F1 car performs consistently under the intense conditions of a race weekend.
