At the Bennett Transportation & Logistics 250 in Atlanta on Saturday evening, a late-race wreck involving Ross Chastain and Austin Hill dramatically altered the outcome of the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series event. The incident during the final lap handed Sheldon Creed a thrilling and well-earned win.
With 10 laps remaining, race officials deployed a red flag after Josh Williams crashed into both the outside and inside walls. Williams lost control while attempting to avoid Rajah Caruth, who was dealing with a flat tire, as Sam Mayer closed in behind him. The red flag was necessary to clean debris from the track, setting up a 10-lap shootout for the finish.
Debris Cleanup Leads to Intense Race Restart
As the race resumed with six laps to go, Ross Chastain was leading the pack, closely followed by Sheldon Creed, Austin Hill, and Jesse Love, each poised for a strong challenge. Chastain maintained the lead for four laps after the green flag but was overtaken when Hill dove to the front. Not long after, Chastain cleared Hill on the final lap, only for Creed to seize the opening and surge ahead, claiming the win by holding off his rivals in a gripping finish that fans will remember.

Early Incident Involving Multiple Drivers Raises Tensions
The race was marked by aggressive maneuvering early on, particularly on Lap 5 when Corey Day attempted a risky three-wide move. This resulted in contact with Ryan Sieg, causing Sieg to spin out. The collision also involved Blaine Perkins, Kyle Sieg, Harrison Burton, Patrick Staropoli, and Day, effectively ending the race day for several competitors.
Following his release from the infield care center, Ryan Sieg expressed frustration over Day’s early move, criticizing it as unnecessary and damaging.
Yeah, it’s Lap 3, I think, so we’re just riding, just kind of staying in line trying to get our line going and then he’s got somewhat of a hole and he goes in it,
Sieg said.
I guess he forgot where the gas pedal is. We had a pretty good SciAps Ford riding right there. I mean what’s the point, it’s Lap 3. But you know what I mean, that’s his normal race anyways. Tearing up cars. He’s like that. At Martinsville he wrecks 15 times in one lap. Last week he did that about four or five times at Daytona. Here were are on Lap 3. Not smart.

Chastain Maintains Aggressive Pace Amidst Challenges
Despite the recklessness of some early maneuvers, Ross Chastain showed strong control and determination during the crucial stages of the race. Leading after the restart, Chastain battled fiercely to defend his position but was ultimately part of the key last-lap collision that shifted the race’s dynamics. His clash with Austin Hill, which took Hill out of contention, cleared a path for Sheldon Creed’s triumph.
Race Impact and NASCAR Fans’ Reactions
Sheldon Creed’s win at the Bennett Transportation & Logistics 250 is expected to boost his standing in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series, demonstrating resilience and opportunistic racing. The late-race chaos, including the red flag and last-lap wreck, provided an intense spectacle that will likely energize the fanbase and add intrigue to upcoming races.
With key drivers like Creed, Chastain, Hill, and Jesse Love showing strong form, the season promises more dramatic finishes and fierce competition at tracks like Martinsville and Daytona as the series unfolds.
